I do not think my room is suitable for filming because it's too girly for the character archer. It may be too small for all the cast as well.

Props: Costume for Archer
The costume for Archer will be a normal set of casual clothes. He will wear a long sleeve shirt with a T-shirt underneath with a pair of jeans. This will show that he's just an ordinary boy with nothing especially strange or off about him, which further emphasises the fact that he is unfortunate in the fact that he's working against the clock to keep himself alive and has been taken out of his element.
Prop: the dress
Before and after
We bought this dress because it has a floral design, which is quite innocent and sweet. The 'girl' needed something 'innocent' about her but in a twisted way. We also bought some patterned pop socks to tear as well.

Why films use props
A prop (theatrical prop) is an object used on stage by actors to add to the plot or storyline of a theatrical production. Smaller props are referred to as "hand props", whiel larger props are know as decoration, like chair or table. the difference between a set decoration or prop is use. if the item sin't touched by the preformer for any reason it's a decoration. If it is touched by the actor in accordance to the script then its a script.
Many props are ordinary objects. A prop must look real to the audience, to pull them into the scene more. In some cases, a prop is designed to behave differently from how the real object would, often for the sake of safety.
Sometimes a prop becomes so famous it can remind us of a film.
in the film Psycho the stuffed owl, shower curtain and knife are famous props.

possible filming location - bedroom
Possible filming location (photo to be added)
My bedroom was one of the possible filming locations for thescene where Archer is in his room and opens the gift. This location wassuggested because the bedroom is not overly girly and so would suit the stereotypicalcharacteristics of Archer. The locationof the house was also within traveling distance as it is only a few miles awayfrom collage (25 minutes by bus) making it the most convenient location. Howeverwe decided against using this location in the footage.
There were several reasons for this, including:
· The house would be very busy at the time when wewould be filming with up to 12 people being in the house at one time, this wouldcause problems as you could get unwanted sound in the footage.
· The room is very small giving the characterlittle space to move in, it also would make it difficult for the camera crew tofilm in.
· The room gets a lot of sunlight which might castunwanted shadows in the scene.
· The bed in the room is a bunk bed which is coterieto the original scrip. In the scrip archer sits/lies on his bed when he opensthe gift, you wouldn’t be able to film this very easily in a high bed, so inorder to film in this location the script would after be altered. For examplehe would have to open the gift sat on the floor or a chair.
· Other rooms in the house were being decorated atthe time and so this room was being used as a storage room (leaving no space tofilm).

Props and Costume Research
Research into Props and Costumes
Props and Costumes from other horror films
The red and green jumper, brown hat and gloves of knives are all the notable costume and prop associated with Freddy Kruger from the A Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise. The glove of knives is notbale because it is Freddy's weapon and the hat makes him look threatening and mysterious, also the red in his jumper signifies death, blood and danger.
This image shows the costume and prop of Michael Myers, the killer from the Halloween frachise, which consists of a large kitchen knife, a pair of overalls and a white mask, all of which are notable to the audience.
Lemarchand's box, the fictional lock puzzle/puzzle box, which features mainly in the Hellraiser franchise and is the cause of the characters situations as once they solve the puzzle, it summons the Cenobites, an order of formerly human monsters and acts as a key to their Hell-like realm.

These costumes are similar to what we intend to use in our film, as we are using a floral print dress to make the girl look innocent but splatter it with brown and red paint to show that when she died, she lost her innocence and I think this could become notable to the audience, like Michael Myers costume.

This is quite similar to a prop we will use in our film, as we are using a gift box, which once it is sent to a person, they have a curse passed onto them which means they will be killed by the girls ghost in five days.

Possible filming locations-photos
Possible Film Location-The Boys Room
These photographs are of my room at home which my group are still debating whether or not to use to film for the final scene which takes place in the boys bedroom. Whilst it may be useful to film here, as my house is easy to get to from college and it is spacious enough for our group to film in, there is a problem that my room looks too girly to pass off as a boys room
Location Photos- The River
Location Photos of The River
These are the photos of our first filming location, where we have filmed the first shot of our film, a pan of this river. The shot will be used to set the scene of our film, as the girl in the film who is the ghost died after she was pushed into a river by her uncle and will be edited so it juxtaposes with another scene location, which is the boys birthday party and creates the feeling that something bad is about to happen because of how calm it all is and this links to the horror genre as river looks gloomy and miserable, which you may expect to see in horror film locations. This location is probably the only location we are using in our film that has or will pose a risk to any of us whilst filming, as there was the danger of one of us falling in the river and the camera being dropped in the river.

Props-Contact lenses
The Girl's Contact Lenses
These are white contact lenses, known as "Zombie contacts", which we are going to use in our film. They will be worn by Eden Clark, who is playing the role of "The Girl" so the contact lenses are being used in order to make the girl's eyes look creepy, threatening and most importantly, lifeless.

Tricky shot
Zooming in to draw attention to specific detail may be
difficult as it requires a steady hand. If the camera moves too quickly or
jitters a little the picture will look unprofessional. We also need to be careful
when zooming out to ensure we don’t zoom out too far and allow unwanted
objects/details to enter the frame.
Progress report
In are research so far we have decided on the genre of are
film. Finalised the opening to the story, created a script, practiced
storyboard scripting and begun the planning for filming. The name of are film
is the gift. The gift is a supernatural/psychological horror about a “gift”
that becomes a curse to whoever possesses it. We have researched into what
ratings have been given to various different horror films. We used the British
board of film classification website to decide on what certificate are film
would be given based upon what content you would find in the film. We have
looked as a group at different genres, similar actors, conventions, analysed
different title sequences of similar films and researched into possible
distribution companies both mainstream and independent. Are
next step is to discuss as a group the filming locations and complete a risk
assessment of those locations, after this we will begin the filming proses.
Analysis of title sequence: Seven
As a group we have analysed and researched into title
sequences in order to understand how a particular genre of film is introduced
and how the creator sets up the mood of the film.
“Seven” is a crime thriller with an 18 certificate. The film
is about two detectives hunting a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins
as his modus operandi. Analysing the opening title sequence of this film will
help us understand how the film is introduced; the title sequence of seven is
very clever as it only shows sections of the full image which leaves it up to
the audience’s imagination to work out what’s happening. The images combine
with the colour effects and the music set a very dark disturbing scene.
Although the images used in the title sequence may appear irrelevant, they bear
connections to the film later on. We could use this idea in our own film.
1.
The first image we see clearly is an open book.
Although the subject in the focus of the shot is visible, the background to the
frame is dark and the various images appear and disappear fast making it hard
to tell what’s happening. The shots appear to be showing someone creating a
journal.
2.
The eerie music combined with the images is very
affective at making the footage appear ‘dark’. The sounds in the music seem to
be mechanical and animatronic this forces the viewer to believe something is
not right. It suggests the audience is witnessing something sinister even
though most of the images used are not particularly horrifying. for example the film could be showing a man
innocently creating a historical journal, but through the build-up of strange
sounds, out of focus shots, close- ups of dangerous objects and dark lighting
we are encouraged to believe that this creating/planning something horrific.
3.
Another imaged used in this title sequence is a
photograph of hands in a book. The hands look old, crippled and frail which further
in forces the idea of evil. The hands could also be displaying a negative
representation of elderly people. The hands look as though they belong to someone
who is ill or even dead. The possibilities of what the hands could represent
are left up to the imagination as the rest of the body is not visible. The
image appears disturbing as it looks as though the hands are reaching forwards
as though there about to grasp something, it springs to mind the idea of ‘chocking’.
The camera angle is tilted and shadows move across the images this suggests the
viewer is being watched or that we have been given insight into something were
not supposed to see. The lighting in the images is underexposed and redline
runs through the images contributing to the sinister mood of the piece.
4.
The next shot appears to be a close up of a
razor blade; again the images are edited together through a series of fast cuts
making it difficult to determine exactly what you see. The sharp object could
be associated with death. The audience is led to believe that the man creating
the journal is inhumane and is perceived as some kind of killer. The metallic screeches
in the background liken the killer to some kind of machine. This suggests the
person is doing what they are because they feel they have to, as though they
have been programed to do so.
5.
The white opening credits appear in between the
images displaying the director and main actors.
The white text used is written in a very childlike font, and it flickers
in and out of focus as the background sounds grow loader.
6.
Next we get a close up shot of the man’s
fingers. He appears to be scraping off dead skin from the top of his finger or
he could be scrapping off glue. The low-key lighting enforces the fact that whatever
he’s doing is ‘shifty’.
7.
The title “seven” flashes up in different places
on the screen. The bright white lettering looks as though it’s scratched and it
contrasts with the black background.
8.
The film looks as though it’s being played from
an old film reel. It appears as though there is scratches and blotches of
colour in unusual places that makes the film look like it’s been damaged. Again
this lends to the idea that we are watching something secretive that we shouldn’t
know about.
9.
The next lot of images we see are of pages in
the book and someone righting in the journal. The pages flash upside down and overlaid. The scratches
and blotches continue to appear on top of the images making it impossible to
read the text. The ambiguity of the words could have been done to show the man
is not thinking clearly. The images suggest he’s “not in his right mind set”
this makes the character seem all the more dangerous. As the book is being
written double exposure is used to imply that the character does not see things
normally. The double exposure makes the viewer feel as though they’ve got a ‘headache’
which reveals theirs something mentally wrong with the person. The images shift
in and out of focus which draws the audience in as they have to try and work
out what’s happening in the image and how the images relate.
10.
In the next shot the frame turns to a red
liquid. It’s not clear what the image is, it could be the ink used to develop
the photos that are part of the journal. I’m sure after the previous images the
red is seen as a representation of blood to most people in the audience.
The red filter is very bold it is used to
signify danger.
11.
More fast cuts and over –lap edits are used - it
gives the impression that the person is desperately trying to finish his work. The
next image we see is a film being cut with scissors. The image he has cut is
then placed on a page under the words sexuality and homosexuality. It’s not
clear what relevance these words have to the story line yet but I assume they
play a part in the film as they are the only words we have been able to read in
the images so far.
12.
We see some more of the righting and watch him
stick some black and white photographs into the journal. The photographs are of
people’s body parts which reminds me of “Frankenstein”. By this point it’s
clear what genre the film is. Following this an extreme close up of a pen shows
him going through a page of righting crossing out certain words from the text. The
words sexuality and pregnancy are both blacked out. This could have reference
to something later on in the film.
13.
The next lot of images shows a young boys face. The
same pen used in the previous images blacks out the boy’s eyes. This suggests
the man has taken away the boys identity. A quick jump cut switches from the
image of the boy with his eyes crossed out to the same image now with his
entire face scribbled over. The flashing
editing gives the impression the man is angry. We don’t know who this boy is or
what has happened or is going to happen to him. The music grows very loud at
this point in the opening sequence. In the next cut a red filter is placed over
the image of the boy. Questions start to arise in the mind of the audience. Has
the boy been murdered?
14.
The screen then becomes a split screen the top
picture is bright red contrasting with the bottom picture which shows him righting
in the book.
15.
After this we see his plastered dirty fingers
holding what looks like a row of fishing hooks. After watching the clip a
second time it seems he is binding the journal.
When the image disappears so quickly all the audience sees is the sharp
objects.
16.
We are shown a close up of a photograph. The photo
shows the back of a man’s head with something metal inserted into the back of
his skull. Following this we see more disturbing images of body parts. Another photograph
shows a different boy with his eyes blacked out suggesting this man could be a serial
killer. A close up of his fingers show s him putting a strand of hair into a
container. Perhaps this man is also trying to uncover something (like a detective)
alternatively he could be a psychopathic killer.
17.
The film continuous to revert back to pictures
of the book and someone righting. There is a cut to an extreme close up shot of
something being pulled between the man’s fingers. It becomes clear in the next
shot that he is threading string through a needle to bind up the book.
18.
Finally we see an extreme close up of an American
dollar note upside down. The word god is the main focus of the shot. The word “god”
is removed from the frame as a voice says "You get me closer to God",
which is the final shot of the opening sequence and suggests that this character
is trying to play the role of god.

Research into a possible film distributor.
A possible independent film distributor is: warp films.
·
Warp films is an independent film production
company based in Sheffield and London that was founded in 2002.
·
Warp has distributed various horror films one
example is “berberian sound studio”. Which about a sound engineer's work for an
Italian horror studio that becomes a terrifying case of life imitating art. The
film was released in 2012 and given a 15 certificate.
A possible mainstream film distributer
is: dream works
·
Dream works is an American film studio which
develops, produces, and distributes films, video games and television
programming
·
I think this would be an appropriate distributor
because Dream works was the distributer of the ring -a similar film that I have
reviewed in my research.
·
However dream works is largely associated with
family films and children’s animated movies and so are film would probably not
appeal to their primary market as are film is a horror movie targeted at a
local audience.

Warner brothers indepth research
Dark Knight
Production
Director- Christopher Nolan. He wrote
Batman Begins, so was well known for this. Before batman he produced Doodlebug,
Following and Memento.
Production Company- Warner
Brothers Picture, this is a major film studio, and subsidiary of Time Warner.
Warner Bro has several subsidiary companies, including Warner Bros. studios,
Warner bros. Pictures, Warner Bro. interactive entertainment, Warner Bro.
Television, Warner Bro. Animation, Warner Home Video, New Line Cinema, TheWB.com,
and DC Entertainment. It owns half the CW Television Network. Recently Warner
Bro has produced The Campaign, Magic Mike, Rock of Ages and Dark Shadows.
Warner Brother is not owned by a larger organisation.
Where did the inspiration for the film come from-
Batman
was originally a comic written by DC comics.
The inspiration for the film was Jokers comic book debut in 1940, the
1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke,
and the 1996 series The Long Halloween,
which retold Two-Face's origin. It
carried on from Batman begins, 2005, also produced by Christopher Nolan.
Target audience- The films
target audience was teenagers, and Batman comic fans. So the older generation
too.
The Package- The
director, Christopher Nolan, would have attracted an audience, because he
produced the first batman film in the trilogy, so if people liked the first one
they would come to watch his next one.
Christian
Bale played Bruce Wayne, Heath Ledger played the Joker, Aaron Eckhart played
Harvey Dent, Michael Caine played Alfred and Morgan Freeman played Lucius Fox.
The cast was 'A' list, so would have attracted a large audience.
The screenplay
writer was Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan, these are both brothers.
The budget
for the Dark Knight rises was estimated at $185,000,000.
Finance for the Films- The money
for the film came from Warner Bros. It only came from one company.
Locations- It was filmed in China, USA and the
UK. The fact that it’s a mainstream film and has been partly filmed in the UK
will appeal to British people, but it won’t people want to go for that specific
reason.
Special Effects- The film
used computer graphics, and some were really done. Special affects would have
attracted a large audience, because they make the film seem more interesting,
and make impossible (or expensive scenes) do able.
Distribution
USP- The unique selling point of the dark
knight rises is
Advertising campaign- There was
many different ways that dark knight was advertised.
Posters- Many posters were released for the
dark knight. Many of the posters are online, and can be bought from sites like
all posters. Empire online had some poster teasers. There were posters on bus’s
advertising the film too. Some posters were on the side of buildings. These
posters would have targeted the target audience because some posters were in
comic shops, where the older fans may have been. Some were online, which may
have attracted the younger audience. The posters on the bus would have
attracted everyone, because many people take the bus, and others would see the
bus while in town.
Adverts- It advertised on TV.
Six Flags
Great Adventure introduced the Dark Knight roller coaster along with Mattel
producing toys, games, board games, puzzles and UNO cards.
Viral campaign- The first
engagement point was the release of a mock campaign site ‘I believe in Harvey
Dent’, which was a main character in Dark Knight. A few days later another site
went live, ‘I believe Harvey Dent Too’, which introduced the Joker to the
audience, and in some comic shops there were joker cards with details about the
site. They made another site called WhySoSerious, which encouraged fans to go
on a scavenger hunt for clues or engage in activites and events that blurred
the distinction between fact and fiction. People had to initiate in both online
and offline tasks, like uploading photos of themselves or participating in an
event at a given time and place in order to advance the story. This had a threefold effect, firstly
it created advocates for the film in the sense that people had invested their
time to piece together the puzzles put before them. Secondly that engagement
was no longer restricted to simply online channels but was opened up to include
offline opportunities for engagement. Finally each channel, each point of
engagement, enhanced and embellished the narrative of the feature film itself.
What appeared to be a series of loosely connected activities was in fact a
carefully constructed eco-system with the film at it’s core. These promotions created a internet buzz, and
attracted the younger and older audiences, and made fans talk and contribute to
the latest information on the film.
The why so serious website looks
like a desktop, it has audio of a women doing a GCN road check. The joker
laughs at the end. This links to a newspaper, where batman has been doodled
over, as well as Harvey dent. It has a link to the trailer. All the links go to
pages with have been graffited over supposedly by the joker.
Publicity-
Trailer- Teaser trailers are the first form of cinematic marketing.
They are incredibly important as they are one of the first elements of the
marketing strategy to reach the mainstream audience at the cinema.
Interestingly , teasers often do not reveal anything about the plot or the key
characters but are still a source of great excitement to fans and film experts.
Afterwards there were a few other trailer, one trailer shows Gotham is in the grips
of evil. It introduces the joker, and sets the scene for an epic fight between
him and batman.
TV star interviews- There's
Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Anthony Michael Hall, Nestor Carbonell, Aaron
Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan himself, all
talking about Batman and the characters in the film, as well as a few comments
on the Joker.
Morgan Freeman talks about the
characters in the film, Batman and Joker.
Michael Caine talks about Alfred
and Wayne as well as Nolan.
Anthony Michael Hall talks about
his character and the duality of Batman.
Nestor Carbonell about his
character of the Major, and how Nolan allows him to act.
Aaron Eckhart talks about the
city and his character's intentions, Batman and Christopher Nolan.
Maggie Gyllenhaal talks about why
she likes Batman and her character's liking for him and Harvey Dent.
Christian Bale talks about his
character and the complexities of being Wayne and Batman, Wayne and Dent,
Christopher Nolan, The Joker and this KFM fight style that Wayne is using to harness
his rage rather than control it.
Magazines- The dark knight appeared in Empire
multiply times. it reviewed it and gave dark knight 5 out of 5. It was on the
cover many times. Dark knight also appeared in LIME, Rolling stone, total film,
and wide screen vision.
newspapers- a fake site was created called the
Gotham times, which has a story about Batman, and tells the story of Harvey
Dent.
web-sites- http://wwws.warnerbros.co.uk/thedarkknight/ is one of
the official websites for the dark knight. It includes some information about
the DVD ‘the follow-up to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director
Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale who reprises the role of Batman/
Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon and
District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organised crime in
Gotham…’ It includes information about the cast and film makers. It has the
trailer, a photo gallery and some downloads (posters and webpages).
There is
the why so serious page, which appears to be made by the joker.
And there
is the http://www.thedarkknightmovie.co.uk/# which has
a home page with some information about the films plot. It has the trailerand
some pages are inactive now.
There were
two sites early on called I believe in Harvey dent, and I believe in Harvey
dent too. One site advertised Harvey
dent and asked you to vote for him, the other was a site suppsoidly made by
joker, which doodled over the top of his pictures.
Premiers-
The dark knight premiered in London, with many stars attending,
including the actors and Victoria Becham. There was a preimere in New York.
Warner Bros.
held the world premiere for The Dark Knight in New York City on July 14, 2008
It was held in an IMAX cinema with the films composers James Newton Howard and
Hans Zimmer playing a part of the film score live. The film was released July
24, 2008 in the United Kingdom – right at the start of the summer holidays.
Awards- The Dark Knight was nominated for over
150 awards recognizing several aspects of the film (most notably the
performance of actor Heath Ledger who individually won 35 awards), more than
any other film of 2008. Of these nominations, the film has won 92, also more
than any other film of 2008.The film won2 academy awards, and 1 golden globe.
Heath Ledger won best supporting actor, the film won top 10 film of the year,
international award for best actor, best supporting actor (both Heath
Ledger), best action movie, best movie,
best director, best actor (christian bale)
and best superhero movie. It won many more.
The audience
is targeted by all of these distribution tactics, because they are more than
likely to see at least one type of it. Many people go online so will see some
of the WebPages. It targets the audience because people will feel special,
they’ve found hidden secrets around the film (different websites) and taken
part in WebPages. Because they will feel some way connected to the film they
will tell others and they will look around for others information on the film.
Both old and new fans are targeted. Knowing the film is very succesful and
received many awards will attract a audience because they know the film is good.
Promotion- Merchandise- Many
products have been made, like action figures, reolepay item (costumes/ weapons/
accerssories), posters, electronics (dvd premiums, dvd, blu ray and cd),
statues and busts, NECA dark knight products (Bobbleheads - Clocks - Wall Scrolls ), Dark Knight Books (Coloring Books - Story Books -

Leicester Sq. or the IMAX cinema. Glu did a competition, asking who should
replace Heath Ledger, the prize was dark knight related goodies. A leaflet
inside the dark knight advertised a
competition. 1st prize was a 4 day trip for 2 to Chicago, runners up
got a DVD or a limited edition dvd.

sponsorship – Nokia created a special
black dark knight edition of the Nokia 6205. The Dark
Knight edition is essentially the same as the light-blue version, except
that it'll come with movie-based ringtones, a preloaded trailer, and a special
Batman logo on an optional back cover.
Game- The
game “Batman: ArkhamAsylum” by Rocky SteadyGames was the biggest selling game
of the year. It took the “new look” Batman and particularly “The Joker” from
the film and made a game that directly benefited from the success of the film

download it, buy it on DVD and Blu-ray and has been on TV. But it took two
years to get on TV.
A unique
feature of The Dark Knight is that the opening sequence was shot using IMAX
technology. It was the first time ever that a major feature film had been even
partially shot using IMAX cameras. This use of a new technology (new to feature
film) allowed the film to be distributed in a different way to a standard
feature film.
