The genre which is intended to or can frighten readers/viewers and also startle them by creating feelings of horror, terror and dread. Horror creates a frightening, tense and eerie atmosphere and can be either supernatural or non-supernatural. It also tries to obtain a negative emotional reaction from the viewer by playing on their primal fears, nightmares or terror of the unknown. The genre can overlap with thriller, fantasy and also supernatural.
A horror film's plot most of the time involves an evil force or event becoming apparent in everyday life, elements including ghosts, vampires, werewolves, monsters, curses, demons, evil spirits, zombies, cannibals and serial killers. Horror films are sometimes referred to as teen terror or slasher films, which are the horror subgenres.

One of the most famous slasher horrors ever made, telling the story of a group of teenagers working at a soon-to-be-re-opened summer camp being picked off one by one by an unknown killer. This film went on to bring Jason Voorhees, an unstoppable killer , into the horror scene.
Paranormal Activity was released in 2007 and is a supernatuarl horror film, detailing a young couples experience with an unwelcome prescence in their new home. This film has spawned three sequels and is one of todays most talked about supernatural horror films, as it is based on true events and it is belived that the video footage of the demons/ghosts is real.
