Treatment Number Two
Title of the film: The Gift
Duration of the film: Two minutes.
Audience:
The audience for this opening sequence is targeted at people aged between 15-40 although we think the age rating for our film may be a 12 as the film may contain some disturbing images for anyone under this age. Also, the film is aimed at anyone who likes horror or supernatural films or has an interest in the supernatural and will probably like films such as The Grudge, The Ring, Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project, The Others and The Exorcist.
Summary/Synopsis:
The film starts on a young boy's birthday, and shows him opening all his gifts. His mother then tells him he has one more, and that she found it on the door step. The present is very tattered, and has no gift tag, so no-one knows who it’s from. Under the ripped wrapping paper are warnings not to open it.
He takes it to his room and opens it. Inside the box is nothing but a pebble and a note, telling him 'she'll be here soon'. He laughs it off, thinking it’s one of his friends, and puts the box to a side.
Later that night he's awoken by a strange gurgling sound, and sees a shadow in his mirror, suddenly the shadow moves forward and slowly pulls itself from the mirror. He can just make out her features, black eyes, blood dripping from her mouth. She lets out a large gurgle, and lifts one hand. She whispers "five days", then disappears. He lays awake all night, terrified of what he's seen, not noticing the five bruises on his arm.

Suggested Elements: The suggest elements of our two minute film which we will use or consider using when making our film and what we may feel will make our film unique include:
- The introduction- the opening credits of our movie may make it unique because not many independent films open with a contrast between action in different locations.
- Setting- the film is set in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, as this is where we live. This will make our film unique because not many films altogether, as well as horror films, have been set in Barnsley, so it will appeal to a northern regional audience who enjoy local films.
- Possible use of coloured filters/lights- we are considering using a red filter on the ghost in order to create a sense of dread or fear.
- Low key lighting- we are also considering using low key lighting in order to make the scene featuring the ghost look dark, scary and miserable.
- Different film locations: we intend to use a pond/river for the start of the two minute film and a house and a bedroom for the rest of it.
- Camera angles/shots: we are thinking of using a pan shot to begin with to show the pond/river at the start, as this location is of central importance to the plot of our film. The rest of the shots may consist of close ups, medium close ups, tracking shots if a character is walking around and possibly an extreme close up.
- Sound- we will use dialogue for the conversation parts of our film and also use non-diegetic, threatening music in the scene with the ghost. Also, we will use diegetic party music for the scene of the boys birthday party.
